Valkyrie | Valkyrie’s Sexuality Was a Big Talk, Says Tessa Thompson

Valkyrie’s sexuality was a “big topic of conversation” among the creators of “Thor: Love and Thunder.”

Tessa Thompson reprized the role of Valkyrie in the Taika Waititi-directed Marvel film, and she revealed that her character’s sexuality was a major talking point before and during filming.

Tessa, 38 – who is attracted to both men and women but chooses not to call herself bisexual – shared: “We talked about it a lot, it was a big talking point. Because I rightly think there’s this real desire from the audience to see the characters being very clearly queer or LGBTQIA inside those spaces, and I think it’s extremely important to have representation.

“And also, as humans, I think we’re not defined by our sexuality, and by who we love. And so sometimes I think completely hanging a narrative on that is a way of diminishing humanity. of the character. Because you don’t allow them to be anything else.”

Tessa admits that it’s difficult to explore the question in depth in a film like “Thor: Love and Thunder”. However, she hopes it will happen one day.

She told Yahoo Entertainment: “It becomes the only storyline, especially in a movie like this where, frankly, you don’t have a lot of room for the storyline.

“So there’s been a lot of conversations about how to deal with that with Valkyrie. And I feel really good, personally, about where we’ve come to. I hope that’s a character that fans continue to relate to. connect, that we have plenty of time to explore her, in all of her humanity. But whether or not she finds love in this movie doesn’t mean she’s not still a fabulous queer character who’s open to find love when it makes sense.
