MontClairVoyant: many subjects in non-tropical weather

DEAR MONTCLAIRVOYANT,

I was so perplexed about two Montclair things that I walked into the water in the flooded basement of my apartment building last week. Stupid of me?

Truly,

Wet it, wet it

Not if you had a city pool pass.

DEAR MONTCLAIRVOYANT,

The first thing that intrigued me was the local League of Women Voters who are hosting the Candidates Forum next month as the Board of Education moves from nominated to elected. Weird?

Truly,

‘At seventeen’ from February

Very odd, after the VOTERS group opposed VOTE for BOE members before their preference was overwhelmingly rejected in the referendum last November. Afterwards, livestock producers will host a forum on vegan food.

DEAR MONTCLAIRVOYANT,

Then there was the part of Mayor Spiller’s speech on the “state of the township” in which he lamented the rapid rise in rents that the township council tried to manage in part via the rent control measure now blocked from April 2020. Intriguing because…

Truly,

‘At eighteen’ of January

…the mayor went on to praise Montclair’s new “Wellmont Arts Center and Plaza” without mentioning the inordinately high rents for the Two South Willow “luxury” apartments in this project. Even “The Wind in the Willow” is expensive.

DEAR MONTCLAIRVOYANT,

In fact, this children’s book is “The Wind in the Willows” – plural.

Truly,

Drew Breeze

For tenants in the “quartier des arts”, the “s” is not synonymous with savings.

DEAR MONTCLAIRVOYANT,

How much do some of the Two South Willow units cost?

Truly,

Wealth of notions

I checked the building’s website on Monday and saw two-bedroom, two-bathroom apartments priced at $3,650 to $4,110 per month! Even a miserable studio cost $2,040. The rent for a utensil drawer in a bedroom: unknown.

DEAR MONTCLAIRVOYANT,

Going back to the BOE, the board has hired a bond attorney as part of hoped-for future upgrades to the mostly older school buildings in our district. Comment?

Truly,

Not Barry Bonds’ lawyer

It can’t hurt, I suppose, as the BOE makes its aforementioned transition from appointed to elected – but I wish the BOE and the Board of School Estimate had done MUCH more on infrastructure before the aforementioned referendum of last November, and I also wish I hadn’t just used the word “supra” twice.

DEAR MONTCLAIRVOYANT,

Our schools definitely need repairs and better ventilation systems. Heck, with aging ovens and open windows during this time of COVID, a number of classrooms are way too cold — meaning students and teachers have to wear something that rhymes with boats.

Truly,

school ship

oats? Moats? Goats?

DEAR MONTCLAIRVOYANT,

No, they have to wear coats, you idiot! Bond referendum in November?

Truly,

Fall vote

I have no interest in voting for who is the best James Bond actor.

DEAR MONTCLAIRVOYANT,

Finally, Asian American students at Montclair High asked the BOE to make the Lunar New Year a district-wide celebration. Thoughts?

Truly,

Event horizon

Hundreds of students and other residents have signed a petition for what sounds like a great idea. Infinitely bigger than swimming lengths in the fourth municipal swimming pool in Montclair (the basement of my apartment).
